# OpenClaw Tool Auto-Expand

A tiny, standalone Chrome extension that automatically opens collapsed tool-call groups and individual tool outputs in the **local OpenClaw Control UI**. No ChatGPT integration or Fiona voice bridge is included.

## Why?

OpenClaw tool calls and their output may be collapsed behind clickable summaries. This extension opens those sections as they appear, so you can see the actual commands and results without repeatedly clicking.

Inspired by [OpenClaw feature request #69523](https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw/issues/69523), which was closed as not planned. This is an **unofficial browser-side workaround**, not an OpenClaw configuration setting or endorsed OpenClaw feature.

## Compatibility

- **Tested manually:** OpenClaw **2026.10.10**, Chrome on Windows 11, dashboard at `http://127.0.0.1:18789/chat/fiona`.
- Confirmed with three separate `exec` tool calls: `whoami`, `hostname`, and `uptime`. Their tool output sections appeared expanded without manual clicks.
- **Not yet tested:** other OpenClaw versions, other browsers, remote hostnames/IPs, or nondefault ports.

## Install (Chrome)

1. Download this repository as a ZIP using **Code**, then **Download ZIP**, and extract it to a permanent folder.
2. Open `chrome://extensions`.
3. Enable **Developer mode**.
4. Click **Load unpacked** and select the folder containing `manifest.json`.
5. Reload the local OpenClaw dashboard.

Chrome loads the extension from that folder, so keep it in place.

**If you already have a separate extension that auto-expands OpenClaw tools, disable that feature or extension before testing this one.**

## How it works

The content script observes the OpenClaw page for DOM changes. When it finds collapsed activity-group summary buttons or collapsed tool-row buttons, it clicks them to expand the corresponding content. It uses the dashboard selectors observed in OpenClaw 2026.10.10.

- No external requests, analytics, accounts, or background service.
- No permissions requested beyond the content script's local URL matches.
- No modification of tool commands or their results.
- Works automatically on existing and newly added groups.

## Limitations

- The content script matches **only** `http://127.0.0.1:18789/*` and `http://localhost:18789/*`. Other hostnames, ports, or HTTPS setups require editing `manifest.json`.
- OpenClaw UI updates may change the selectors and break expansion.
- The extension will reopen sections that are manually collapsed while it is active; it does not provide an on/off toggle yet.
- Not published in the Chrome Web Store. Install unpacked from the source.

## Project status

Version 0.1.0 — extracted from a locally tested Fiona extension, with Fiona's voice bridge and ChatGPT integration removed. **This standalone packaging has not yet been separately browser-tested.**
